Finding a mentor is a really simple track.

  1. When you have a sense of what it is you want to build, find someone who is already where you want to be.
  2. Think about the people in your life who fit the bill, your friends, your family, your network, because you are one degree of separation from that mentor. Often times, he or she is right under your nose. Do the hard work and build your list.
  3. Once you’ve developed your list of multiple, possible mentors, reach out and ask – will you mentor me? You’re going to hear some nos. Don’t let it discourage you, these are busy people.

When you get your yes, the first step is to schedule a meeting.
