In this post, we are going to focus on one of eight disciplines that I teach in chapter 14 of Entrepreneurial Leap: Do You Have What It Takes To Be An Entrepreneur. These key disciplines can make the difference between succeeding or failing once you take your entrepreneurial leap.

Assuming you have an idea that you believe has value and are ready to bring it to the world, adopting the eight disciplines will increase your odds of succeeding.

Discipline #8: See It Every Night to Reach Your Goals

In my interview with Rob Dube on the donothing podcast, I describe how I used the eighth discipline from Entrepreneurial Leap to help me increase my odds of success. It’s a really simple and powerful process.

You must see your 10-year goal vividly in your mind every night before you go to bed. Most important, make sure this goal is what you want because you will probably get it.

The power of this discipline has been described thousands of ways over thousands of years. You can find it in Earl Nightingale’s work The Strangest Secret, in which he teaches: “We become what we think about every day.”

The classic book Think and Grow Rich prescribes a similar discipline for becoming successful: “Simply put, where our attention goes, energy flows.”

Dan Sullivan says, “Our eyes only see and our ears only hear what our brain is looking for.”

In his book You Squared: A High Velocity Formula for Multiplying Your Personal Effectiveness in Quantum Leaps, Price Pritchett describes this phenomenon this way: “You must focus on ends, rather than means…rivet your attention on that spot where you are to land. Once you do that, it’s almost as if you magnetize yourself to the ways and means involved in the methodology for getting there. Solutions begin to appear. Answers come to you.”

And if all of the above is too heady, Yogi Berra simplified this universal truth by saying, “If you don’t know where you are going, you might not get there.”

I have practiced this discipline for almost 30 years now with multiple businesses and great results. I urge you to do the same. If you see something clearly in your mind, it is more likely to happen.

Take a few minutes now to write down the 10-year goal you will picture in your mind every night from this moment forward.
