One of the biggest contributors to an entrepreneur-in-the-making’s success is having a great mentor. Sadly, there’s a shortage of mentors for entrepreneurs.

If you are a successful entrepreneur and have a passion for helping people, entrepreneurs-in-the-making need you. This is an opportunity to leave a legacy and put a dent in the universe.

When asked to be a mentor, or when considering mentoring, it can be overwhelming and daunting to imagine having someone else’s success in your hands. As a result, I’ve created something called the MentorTrack. It’s designed to do 80% of the heavy lifting for you.

There are five steps to the MentorTrack:

1. Give your protégé/mentee a copy of Entrepreneurial Leap (as you may know, I’ve written a book focused on giving entrepreneurs-in-the-making a huge jump-start on becoming successful entrepreneurs)
2. Ask them to read the book and schedule a meeting. Have them bring all of their questions to the first meeting.
3. Meet.
4. Answer all of their questions and share your story, wisdom and insights.
5. If all goes well, schedule the next meeting and agree on a format going forward.

The MentorTrack will do two powerful things for you as a mentor:

1. It will save you a tremendous amount of time. Your time is incredibly valuable. The MentorTrack will help you weed out the people who, after reading Entrepreneurial Leap, realize they aren’t a true entrepreneur-in-the-making. Some percentage may even cancel before you have a chance to meet. You would have otherwise spent time and several meetings trying to help someone who really wasn’t going to be an entrepreneur in the first place.
2. As I mentioned earlier, the MentorTrack will do 80% of the heavy lifting for you. It will reduce the amount of energy you spend thinking about what to teach your mentee/protégé. Let the three phases in Entrepreneurial Leap—Confirm, Glimpse, and Path—guide you through the mentoring process.
